Inspired by Commitment and Compassion: Solomon Agyemang, PharmD ‘26
July 29, 2024
Working as a pharmacy technician at CVS, Solomon Agyemang had the opportunity to observe
several pharmacists in action. One pharmacist in particular inspired Agyemang with
his commitment and compassion.
“Observing his dedication to assisting patients, even on his days off, deeply inspired
me and fueled my passion for the profession,” Agyemang recalled.
After completing his undergraduate studies in neuroscience and psychology at Indiana
University, Solomon's search for a pharmacy school in the metro Atlanta area led him
to PCOM School of Pharmacy. The school's welcoming atmosphere and small class sizes immediately resonated with
him.
"During my interview, I experienced a strong sense of belonging while conversing with
the faculty,” Agyemang said. “I felt at ease speaking with them, and the small class
size provided ample opportunity for students and teachers to connect and get to know
each other.”
PCOM School of Pharmacy, located in Suwanee, Georgia, offers a comprehensive Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program designed to develop highly trained pharmacists capable of practicing in various healthcare
environments. The school's commitment to academic excellence and student support has
made a significant impact on Agyemang's educational experience.
"The program faculty have consistently been the standout feature of the pharmacy program, thanks to their
extensive knowledge and friendly demeanor,” he said. “This supportive environment
has significantly enhanced my learning experience."
Agyemang credited five faculty members with being particularly influential.
“I’ve been fortunate to work with five exceptional faculty members—Dr. Sharma, Dr. Mody, Dr. Huang, Dr. Wang, and Dr. Tovar—who have been instrumental throughout my pharmacy journey. Their assistance has been
invaluable to me,” he said.
For those considering pharmacy school, Agyemang offers some valuable advice.
“Research about pharmacy and understand the various roles and specializations within
pharmacy,” he suggested. “This will help you determine if the field aligns with your
interests and career goals.”
For Agyemang, this led to pursuing a career as an oncology pharmacist. Upon graduation, Agyemang plans to apply for a residency program with a goal of
becoming a Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist.
Agyemang also encourages prospective pharmacy students to get hands-on experience
in a pharmacy setting, whether through internships, part-time work, or volunteering.
“This will give you a realistic view of the profession,” he explained.
Lastly, Agyemang recommends connecting with current pharmacy students and professionals
to gain insights and advice.
