Community Outreach and Pathway Programs
The Office of Admissions at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine is committed
to reaching out to pre-college students from all backgrounds.
Through innovative programs and events, the Office of Admissions provides exceptional
opportunities for young people to learn about the medical professions, scientific
inquiry and much more.
PCOM Middle School Science Enrichment Program
PCOM's Middle School Science Enrichment Program (PMSEP) is offered to middle school students
from Philadelphia and the surrounding area. This program is designed to influence
young people to choose a career in the health professions through early exposure.
Scholars engage in clinical experiences through project based learning. Students partake
in hands-on learning experiences around science topics as well as activities that
enhance leadership and communication skills. Each participant is mentored by a medical
student and is supervised by a PCOM faculty/staff member.
Future Healthcare Scholars Program
The Future Healthcare Scholars Program at PCOM Georgia is designed for Atlanta-area students in 9th and 10th grade who have an interest
in healthcare professions. The program builds on their curiosity through interactive
learning experiences, workshops, campus visits, college readiness preparation and
mentorship opportunities that will encourage students to pursue a career in healthcare.
The program educates students from area communities on osteopathic medicine and other healthcare opportunities. It fosters the mission of PCOM in hopes that
these students will pursue a professional degree and serve their communities.
Health Career Collaborative Program
Offered by PCOM South Georgia, the Health Career Collaborative program (HCC) is designed for high school students
beginning in 10th grade who have an interest in healthcare professions. Students enter
the program as a cohort until their high school graduation. Participants engage in
interactive learning experiences, workshops, campus visits, college readiness preparation
and mentorship opportunities.
Students Progressing in Academics for Readiness and Knowledge (SPARK)
Twice a year, PCOM South Georgia opens its doors to area high schools giving them the opportunity to meet students,
participate in workshops and learn about healthcare professions. The goal of the program
is to introduce students to osteopathic medicine and encourage youth to explore careers
in health care. This program also promotes leadership in the South Georgia region
and improves college and career readiness. By providing hands-on experience to students,
PCOM South Georgia hopes to inspire change and action in communities surrounding our
campus.
