Discovering a Passion for Pharmacy: Lauren Callaway, PharmD ‘26
July 23, 2024
Lauren Callaway never imagined her summer job at an independent pharmacy would ignite
a passion for a lifelong career. Now, she's on track to become a pharmacist, with
dreams of running her own heart failure clinic and potentially teaching future generations
of pharmacy professionals.
What sets PCOM School of Pharmacy apart? According to Callaway, it's the dedicated
faculty who truly love the profession and are always willing to help.
"Classes are designed to simulate the real world," she explained. The small campus
size allows professors to get to know each student personally, fostering a supportive
learning environment.
John Tovar, PharmD, associate professor of pharmacy practice, exemplifies this commitment to student
success.
"Dr. Tovar really took the time to listen to all my concerns and questions every single
day and answer them in detail and in different ways for me to understand,” she said.
“Especially on days when school is exhausting and I wanted to give up, he never did.
He always pushed me to be the best I could be even if I did not believe in myself.”
"Every faculty member has been so helpful in answering all of my questions. I love
that every professor gets to know the students beyond just the classroom," Callaway
added.
For those considering a career in pharmacy, Callaway's advice is simple: "Even if
you are not sure, just try it!"
PCOM School of Pharmacy's Doctor of Pharmacy program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare
industry. The school's Early Assurance Program allows college freshmen, sophomores, and juniors to apply and be conditionally accepted,
providing a clear path to a rewarding career in pharmacy.
