Paid Time Off (PTO) 
                  It is the policy of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine to grant paid
                     time off (PTO) to residents and fellows, with proper approval.
                  
                  
                   
                  
                  
                  PGY-1 residents
                  
                  
                     
                     - Shall receive 20 days of paid time off (PTO) per academic year. This includes 10 vacation
                        days and 10 days that can be used for things like doctor’s visits, interviews and
                        sick time.
- Five vacation days will be taken during the Christmas/New Year’s holiday week. The
                        other 5 days can be used at any other time of the year, except in the months of July
                        or June, or while rotating at certain affiliated hospitals.
- Unused PTO cannot be carried over to the next academic year unless used for parental, medical or caregiver leave. The resident must let their program coordinator know if they plan to carry PTO to
                        the next academic year, as early in the academic year as possible.
- Subsequent year PTO can be moved into the current year, if used for parental, medical
                        or caregiver leave. The resident must let their program coordinator know if they plan
                        to move PTO time from subsequent academic years to the current year, as early in the
                        academic year as possible.
- All time off must be approved by the site director, the program director, and the
                        designated institutional official (DIO).  
PGY-2 and above residents
                  
                  
                     
                     - Shall receive up to 20 days of PTO per academic year. These days may be used for things
                        like vacations, doctor’s visits, interviews and sick time.

                        know if they plan to carry PTO to the next academic year, as early in the academic

                        to move PTO time from subsequent academic years to the current year, as early in the

Process
                  
                  
                     
                     - The resident/fellow will complete the PTO request form and get approval from the site
                        director at least six weeks in advance. (Exceptions can be made on a case-by-case
                        basis.)
- The resident/fellow will then submit the PTO form to their program coordinator for
                        final approval by the program director and DIO.
- The program coordinator will contact the resident/fellow once final approval has been
                        given.
