When Philipa Wang (DO ’25) at PCOM Georgia learned she had matched at Emory University to train in her top-choice speciality
of Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP), she described feeling a mix of emotions—both
relieved and excited—to be venturing into the next step of becoming a great physician.
Wang’s passion for pathology stems from a previous experience working in a veterinary diagnostic pathology lab.
It was there that she first encountered the intricate workings of diagnostic laboratories.
“I learned to really love the basic sciences and histology and how pathology can touch
all aspects of medicine,” she said. “I found it inspiring to think that even once
a person has died, a pathologist is able to help families find closure and heal, which
can be a rewarding experience.”
Wang credits PCOM Georgia for helping her secure a dream match placement, applauding
the institution for its supportive faculty and diverse rotations that allowed her to explore various specialities and hone in on her procedural skills.
As she embarks on the next chapter of her journey to becoming a physician, Wang wants
to encourage future medical students to embrace all of the learning opportunities PCOM Georgia has to offer and to not
let the fear of failure deter you from moving forward.
“You need to remind yourself that making mistakes is part of the learning process.
As long as those mistakes are in a practice environment, they allow you to become
stronger and more confident in your abilities to serve future patients.”
PCOM Georgia has been serving students and the community for 20 years as a branch campus of Philadelphia
