Match Day 2021
March 31, 2021Students from the class of 2021 celebrated one of the most exciting days in their
professional journey—Match Day. Here they share their personal match story, what has
inspired them along the way and what advice they would give to students starting the
journey today.
Where did you match?
Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia
What inspired you to go into medicine?
My personal experiences have led me to develop an appreciation for the field of medicine.
As my family members were going in and out of hospitals, I was reminded of the importance
of building relationships with other human beings. It takes only one interaction to
impact a person's life for the better. Influencing one person can have a domino effect
where they influence those around them. Altogether, this can lead to improved physical,
mental and emotional wellbeing. Medicine encompasses all this and more. My motivation
towards medicine includes serving the community, educating and advocating for patients
and a commitment to low-income, underserved populations like the one I grew up in.
How did you feel when you found out you had matched?
Amazing!
What advice would you give to year one medical students just starting their journey?
There will be many ups and downs during medical school, but never give up. You have
to fight through some bad days to earn the best days.
