Katie O’Shea, DO ’23
Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
May 18, 2023The ever changing nature of emergency medicine motivates Katie O’Shea, DO ’23, to
continue learning new ways to become a better physician. Walking into an emergency
room with no idea what could be on the other side of the curtain is what makes her
future career so exciting.
“The human body is fascinating,” she said. “The science involved in the makeup of
a living species is so humbling.”
Aside from her time learning more about medicine, one meaningful experience for O’Shea at PCOM was working as class president. Learning
how to handle individuals in stressful situations allowed her to develop relationships
with others. In addition, being able to interact with both faculty and students on
a more personal level opened her up to different perspectives.
Awed by those around her, she says her class is “filled with passionate individuals
that will be unbelievable future advocates for their patients.” O’Shea is grateful
to them, her family, and friends for their guidance on the journey. Calling them her
“village” she aspires to live a fulfilled life by being a good person.
Luckily for her, she has the perfect example in her own mother. “My mother inspires
me by her ability to stay calm in any situation,” she said. “She is a giver and selflessly
lives her life for others, which encourages me to be a better human.”
O’Shea knows that in life, you may become overwhelmed by what everyone else is doing.
She says “whether it is in life, in school, or in relationships, follow your gut because
it got you to where you are today!”
