Headshot photograph of PCOM medical school graduate Brianna Krewson, DO '23When you ask someone why they chose to attend medical school, “because I cultivated a vegetable garden in college” seems like an unlikely answer. But that is the exact experience which led Briana Krewson, DO '23, to osteopathic medicine. Learning more about the undeniable connection between people and the earth piqued her interest in going after her doctorate.

“I wanted to pursue medicine that would allow me to focus on healing as a combination of body, mind, and spirit,” she said. Krewson chose PCOM because it allowed her to foster her medical education in holistic healing and osteopathic principles, while still being located close to family.

Having quickly become involved in various organizations at PCOM, such as the Gold Humanism Honors Society, PCOM HEARTS, and Medical Students for Masks, Krewson was recently selected as the 2023 recipient of the Mason W. Pressly Memorial Medal. This award is presented to a student for their outstanding achievement and service to the College, the community and the osteopathic profession. Recipients are selected by representatives from across the College community.

Upon graduation, Krewson is excited to serve as a family medicine resident at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. “I am aiming to provide care for the underserved,” she shared. “I want to be a community leader and leader in the field of family medicine.”

Hopeful that her work will foster meaningful connections with patients, their families, and the community at large, Krewson is focused on always being attentive. She says you will gain respect from your patients and community if you “show up, listen, learn, and be present.”
