Kylie Parrish, MS/Biomed '22
MS in Biomedical Sciences - Preclinical Sciences
August 4, 2022
Kylie Parrish was inspired to earn a degree in biomedical sciences in order to help those who have difficulty accessing health care get the help they
need.
“This program allowed me to attend classes with the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
students and better prepared me for medical school,” she said.
And that commitment and preparation paid off for Parrish. After completing the program,
she will matriculate into the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program at PCOM South Georgia.
Edward Shaw, PhD, director of the biomedical sciences program, said he is proud of the work Parrish
has put in to reach her dreams.
“Kylie has been an outstanding student academically from the outset of joining the
program,” he said. “It has been wonderful watching her become more comfortable with
the “non-academic” aspects of science such as public presentations. These types of
interactions are part of almost any health profession and can be a real challenge
for students as they begin their training. Kylie recognized that and has worked hard
to better succeed in that area. It speaks to her maturity and self-awareness as she
works toward her career goals.”
Parrish moved to the Moultrie area from her hometown of Austell, Georgia, after completing
her undergraduate degree at Kennesaw State University.
Of her choice to attend graduate school in a rural area, Parrish said, “PCOM South
Georgia focuses on medically underserved communities, which is something that really interests me as I want to serve and assist in medically
underserved communities as a physician.”
