PCOM Addresses Supreme Court's Affirmative Action Ruling
June 30, 2023Dear Members of the PCOM Community:
Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that admissions programs at Harvard and UNC,
both of which considered race, violated the Constitution. I want to assure you that
our College will thoroughly examine this legal decision and its potential effects.
A holistic review of applicants is a manifestation of our whole-person approach and is a widely regarded best practice among collegiate admissions offices. We have
long been committed to providing a PCOM education to the broadest range of talented
individuals, and that will continue.
Racial and ethnic diversity in the health professions enriches the educational experience
and, ultimately, the nation's healthcare workforce. This directly impacts the care
of patients and the well-being of the communities we serve.
At PCOM, we will continue to sustain a learning community where diversity, equity and inclusion is respected, embraced and celebrated.
