PCOM Georgia Partners with Gwinnett Ballet Theatre
With Pro Bono Physical Therapy Services
September 17, 2024
PCOM Georgia will provide physical therapy care for dancers at the Gwinnett Ballet
Theatre.
The Department of Physical Therapy at PCOM Georgia recently announced a three-year partnership with the Gwinnett Ballet Theatre as part of the College’s ongoing commitment to providing patient-centered care and
community service.
As part of the agreement, students from PCOM Georgia’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program will gain hands-on experience under the supervision of licensed faculty members by
providing the following pro bono services: education on injury prevention and wellness,
comprehensive screenings and assessments for strength, flexibility, mobility, endurance,
and balance. Targeted interventions will address existing injuries.
“Early screenings and interventions are critical in addressing risk factors,” said
Ruth Maher, PT, PhD, DPT, WCS, chair of the DPT program. “This partnership will help
minimize injury severity and accelerate dancers' return to performance, ultimately
optimizing each dancer's performance.”
Gwinnett Ballet Theatre was the first performing non-profit organization in Gwinnett
County and celebrates over four decades of serving the community with entertainment,
outreach, and education.
“Partnering with institutions like PCOM Georgia who share in our commitment to education
and community service is critical to our mission,” said Lori-Zamzow Wire, artistic
director at Gwinnett Ballet Theatre. “We’re thrilled to be able to give our dancers
access to high-quality care and physical therapy resources that will prolong their
careers in the performing arts.”
The physical therapy services will be provided on-site at Gwinnett Ballet Theatre's
Suwannee location to ensure convenient access for dancers.
