PCOM Georgia recently hosted the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) for a Lunch and Learn and Q+A session where they met with campus leaders and student organizations to discuss the benefits of networking in medicine and provide tips and resources for further career development for students.

Representing AOA was Richard Thacker, DO, MACOI, member of the board of trustees, and Kathleen S. Creason, MBA, chief executive officer, who shared valuable insight into the significance of professional connection and engagement at the local, state and national levels, and the critical role advocacy plays in shaping the future of osteopathic medicine.

Student leaders from organizations including the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Council and Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) participated in a lively discussion where they were able to ask questions about the topics that are currently impacting the students at PCOM Georgia.

“I am personally grateful to have had this opportunity to meet with Dr. Thacker and Ms. Creason who took the time to share their knowledge and guidance,” said SOMA Chapter President, Meredith Kuttig (DO ‘27). “As I continue my journey in medicine, I look forward to fostering these connections, advocating for my peers, and contributing to the advancement of osteopathic medicine.”

Partnerships with organizations like the American Osteopathic Association is a testament to PCOM Georgia’s commitment to providing ample opportunities for growth for its students and allows them to have a voice in decisions affecting medical education.

“I believe that networking is an invaluable skill for the professional development of students, which is why I was excited about the opportunity for AOA to visit PCOM Georgia,” said DO Council President Mierra Robinson (DO ’27). “As osteopathic student doctors, fostering relationships with organizations such as AOA is vital for our development and success as we strive to become exceptional osteopathic physicians dedicated to serving our communities.”
