The pre-professional medical laboratory science program culminates in a Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Science degree. This full-time, two-year program includes online didactic course with monthly hands-on laboratory practice at PCOM Georgia (Suwanee, Georgia).

Students will also complete clinical rotations in each of the five major disciplines of medical laboratory science: clinical hematology and coagulation, clinical chemistry, immunohematology, medical microbiology, urinalysis and body fluids. These disciplines have an array of sub-specialties which are taught and trained within the program as well.

Medical Laboratory Science Program Details

The pre-professional medical laboratory science program is designed for students who hold a bachelor's degree in a biologic or chemical science with appropriate prerequisite coursework.

Students will complete 70 hours of coursework including medical microbiology, laboratory management, advanced hematology, advanced chemistry, research methods and more. Visit the curriculum page for additional details.

Students will also be required to attend monthly in-person laboratory practice of concepts relating to the subject matter studied for pre-training prior to clinical internships. A campus practical exam is required as part of the final grade.

Additionally, students will complete five clinical rotations (one in each major discipline) for a total of 160 onsite hours of internship in each area. Students will be eligible to sit for the ASCP certification exam upon successful completion of the program.
