A Journey Shaped by Experience: Yvonne Suttles, PharmD ‘25
September 12, 2024
Yvonne Suttles, a pharmacy student at PCOM School of Pharmacy, brings more than two decades of experience as a pharmacy technician to her studies.
Her journey into pharmacy was inspired by her best friend, a pharmacist, and her extensive
background in the field. This unique perspective has given Suttles a solid foundation
as she pursues her PharmD, expected to be completed in 2025.
Prior to enrolling in the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program, Suttles completed her undergraduate studies at Mercer University. This academic
foundation, combined with her practical experience, has positioned her for success
in the PharmD program.
According to Suttles, her decision to pursue her degree at PCOM School of Pharmacy
was primarily influenced by the diversity of the faculty and student population. Diversity
and inclusion is the core component of PCOM’s institutional identity and a key pillar of its strategic initiatives.
As a student, Suttles has come to appreciate the supportive environment at PCOM, noting
the patience and opportunities provided to help students achieve their goals of becoming
pharmacists.
For those considering becoming a pharmacist, Suttles offers the following advice based on her extensive hands-on experience in
the field.
"If you haven't worked as a technician, please do so,” she said. “The knowledge that
you gain from work will benefit you immensely once you begin classes."
