Aryan Karzai (PharmD ’25) Matches for PGY-1 Residency at Ochsner LSU
March 31, 2025
Aryan Karzai (PharmD '25) has always had a passion for understanding how medicine
works, which is why he chose to pursue clinical pharmacology at PCOM Georgia.
When Karzai learned he had matched at Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport, Louisiana
for a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency, it brought on a range of emotions. “It was an incredible
moment, knowing that all the hard work had paid off, but at the same time, I couldn't
help but feel a sense of anticipation for the journey ahead,” he shared.
Karzai credits the PCOM School of Pharmacy for his successes, commending the faculty and staff for always going above and beyond
to support his growth and push him to excel both personally and professionally.
“The staff at PCOM Georgia created an environment where I felt comfortable being myself
and that allowed me to really explore my interests and pursue topics that really intrigued
me. This unwavering support and encouragement has been instrumental in shaping my
confidence and perseverance. I feel prepared to face the next phase of my career with
resilience and determination.”
“For students pursuing a career pathway that aligns with residency training, securing
these placements is a significant milestone,” said Sara (Mandy) Reece, PharmD, dean and chief academic officer of the School of Pharmacy at PCOM Georgia. “It's
rewarding to see students like Aryan realize their potential and take the leap of
faith to further their growth as future pharmacists.”
When asked what his advice for future students starting their medical education would
be, Karzai said to not let the fear of failure control your path.
“Every setback presents a valuable learning opportunity, and those experiences are
what ultimately pave the way to excellence. Embrace challenges, learn from your mistakes,
and use them as stepping stones toward achieving your goals.”
