Department of Medical Humanities

The mission of the Department of Medical Humanities is to help our students acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to fulfill their ethical and professional responsibilities to their patients, community and society.

The department provides instruction in medical ethics to PCOM’s osteopathic medicine, physician assistant studies, pharmacy, psychology and forensic medicine programs. Problem-Based Learning small group sessions, standardized patient encounters, role-playing, seminars and lectures are used to cover topics including consent, privacy, end-of-life care, delivering bad news, disclosing medical errors, healthcare decision-making rights of minors, and professionalism.
