WILLIAM B. SWALLOW, DO ’79, MS/FM ’20, FACOFP; CAPTAIN, MC, USNR (RET.)
William B. Swallow, DO ’79, MS/FM ’20, FACOFP, Captain, MC, USNR (ret.) has practiced
osteopathic family medicine for 42 years while embedding himself in community service
in various capacities.
Dr. Swallow served in the United States Naval Reserve and retired as a Captain in
the Medical Corps. He served in Operation Desert Storm as a medical officer, working
in casualty receiving and in a medical ward.
Dr. Swallow holds leadership positions in many medical organizations including chairman
of the Pennsylvania State Board of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a trustee to the board
of trustees and a member of the executive committee of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic
Medical Association as well as a longtime member of the American College of Osteopathic
Family Physicians, currently serving on the Federal Legislation and Advocacy Committee
and the Medical and Professional Ethics Committee. He is the past president of the
PCOM Alumni Association.
As a testament to his devotion and commitment to rural medicine, Dr. Swallow and his
wife, Elizabeth J. Swallow, established the William and Elizabeth Swallow Endowed
Fund for Rural Medicine at PCOM. The $500,000 fund is available to PCOM students completing
rural medicine rotations.
A native Pennsylvanian, Dr. Swallow grew up in the Lehigh Valley. He holds a bachelor’s
and a master’s degree in radiological physics from Bucknell University and a doctor
of osteopathic medicine degree and a master’s degree in forensic medicine from PCOM.
Dr. and Mrs. Swallow have three children: W. Jason Swallow, Jennifer R. Kauf, VMD;
and Matthew J. Swallow.
