Chief Information Officer
Richard T. Smith, MBA, is a distinguished leader in the information technology (IT) sector, boasting more than 30 years of direct experience steering technological vision
and architectural development in various industries, including higher education and
health and human services. Currently, Smith serves as the Chief Information Officer
at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), a role he has held since
February 2019. During his tenure, he has led numerous transformative IT initiatives,
such as designing and implementing PCOM's modern data lake and data warehouse, initiating
a "cloud first" strategy, and significantly fortifying the institution's cybersecurity
stance in partnership with the Chief Information Security Officer.
Prior to his role at PCOM, Smith was Vice President of Corporate Information Technology
at Elwyn, one of the largest human service organizations in the U.S., from 2006 to
2019. His stewardship there led to the creation and execution of a comprehensive enterprise
IT infrastructure, improving the efficiency and satisfaction of approximately 3,500
employees and 12,000 consumers.
A proud alumnus of St. Joseph's University, Smith holds an MBA and a BS in Management
Information Systems, enhancing his extensive expertise in numerous IT-related domains.
