The Campus Climate Assessment Project at PCOM
At Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), we seek to create an environment characterized by openness, fairness and equal access for all students, staff and faculty. A welcoming and inclusive campus climate is grounded in mutual respect, nurtured by dialog, evidenced by a pattern of civil interaction and is one of the foundations of our educational model. Creating and maintaining a community environment that respects individual needs, abilities and potential is critically important.
To this end, we are conducting a climate assessment to examine how all members of our community experience the current campus climate at PCOM. The goals of the project are multifold:
identify how all constituent groups (faculty, staff, students and administrators) experience and perceive the climate for learning and working with at PCOM;
uncover how the community responds to them (e.g.., governance issues, pedagogy, curricular issues, professional development, inter-group/intra-group relations, respect issues, etc.); and
develop specific objectives and action plans to address institutional changes and cultural shifts.
PCOM has contracted Dr. Sue Rankin of Rankin & Associates Consulting, a national leader in conducting institutional assessments, to conduct this project. The project will be led by faculty, staff, students and administrators from PCOM who will assist Dr. Rankin on the project. Dr. Lisa McBride, Chief Diversity Officer, will serve as the Chair of the Campus Climate Survey Work Group (CSWG).
